A few days ago, I had a procedure on my right eye that lifted off an old familiar cloud and made the world look crisp and clear. During this process, I brought in another old familiar friend –deep hypnosis – and everything became a most beautiful daydream and show of lights, as my entire body became completely and utterly still. I opted to have no sedatives – only a local numbing of my eye, and I was so delighted with how well it went. I wore an eye patch for a day to keep up with the current pirate trend, and when the patch came off, I was dumbfounded. I could see the signs on the streets and read the letters on them. I could see individual leaves on the trees and buds coming up on the branches. The letters on my computer are black instead of gray. So I’m looking at the physical world in a new way, and soon my left eye will get taken care of too.
It seems like the stresses of the mind have increased in our times, but these have been going on since the beginning of time and in every culture. Stresses about whether you’ll be eaten by a tiger or whether the Pony Express would bring your mail were as troubling as today’s thoughts about paying bills or computer breakdowns. There are many ways to relieve the stress of your mind. Some of them go back to time immemorial – ways that are tested by time that can help you to feel more peaceful in any situation.
Telling Your Mind to Be Quiet
Someone I know says, “Shut up, mind!” when challenging thoughts come up. If you don’t like that and want something more delicate, you can ask your mind to please be quiet. Whatever it takes. Something else you can say to your mind is, “No, I AM the peace of God.” Or you can say, “Peace be still and know that I am God.” Or “I AM the power of healing, and I AM healing myself now.”
Saying Four Magic Sentences
There’s a teaching from Hawaii called Ho’oponopono. It’s a wonderful approach to transforming and clearing your mind and your understanding. One of the major premises is to take full responsibility for everything that happens – even for what is happening in other people you come in contact with. This is based on the understanding that you’re creating your reality moment by moment. So then if this is so, you can say four sentences that help to cleanse your mind and that can work magic for you. Here they are (and they can be said inside yourself in any order): “Thank you; I love you; I’m sorry; please forgive me.” I’m thankful for all I have and all I am. I love you and raise my vibration and level of awareness to transmute anything. I’m sorry for not perceiving this with understanding, and I wish to be free of it in the spirit of forgiveness. Saying these four sentences has brought many miracles to people who’ve had obstacles in their minds and lives.
Knowing How to Breathe for Peacefulness
So often when you’re stressed out, your breathing is shallow, fast and concentrated up at the top of your lungs. Relaxed breathing goes down to your belly, so it’s deeper and slower. Your breathing is connected with your thoughts, so to relax your mind, concentrate on your breathing. Breathe deeply in an inhalation and slowly exhale. There are more detailed ways of breathing for relaxation, but slowing down and deepening your breathing is a good place to begin.
In my own life, meditation has been the cornerstone for all that I do and the great ancient reliever of stress. What happens when you meditate is that you relax enough to find a place in the core of yourself that is already free of stress. It’s like taking a vacation inside to a real paradise of peace. One way to meditate is to focus on words or images. You can use any of the words I mentioned above or just the word “om,” as this timeless word means that great peace of the universe. Give yourself a specific amount of time, and find a comfortable place to rest your mind in meditation.
Enumerating Your Blessings
Whenever you’re grateful, you go to another level of life. It’s a higher vibration, and here your mind becomes more quiet. You can enumerate what you’re grateful for. You can even mention seemingly small or hidden things that you hadn’t noticed before. “I’m grateful for my feet. They help me to walk.” I’m grateful for my teeth. They help me to eat.” “And my bed and my computer and my lamp that lets me see more clearly.” Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Asking Your Wise Mind
Ask your wise Mind to tell you the truth about something that’s concerning you. Ask it to tell you about your true worth, and it will tell you how magnificent you truly are. Ask it why it’s now necessary for that person you thought was so important to not physically be in your life for now, and it will show you how you’re to be empowered now and grow stronger. Ask your Wise Mind any question, and it will show you the true power of your mind to know and understand the higher truth
These are ways to overcome the stresses of your everyday mind, and these are ways to know and accept your own inner power.

Many people love the 23rd Psalm, and there is good reason for it. It’s a beautiful work of pure faith and love. It is so comforting to lay down by the still waters and find comfort for your soul. Here’s an expanded understanding of the 23rd Psalm. You may find that your heart is opening more and more as you read on.
A Deep Understanding of the 23rd Psalm
“The Lord is my shepherd.” This means that you are in God’s care – the Universe, the One. You are protected. All you need to do is to remember that you are.
Next, remember, “I shall not want.” This means that you will lack nothing. Incorporate this belief into your everyday awareness. Suggest it to your deepest inner mind. You shall not want.
“He maketh me to lie down in green pastures; he leadeth me beside the still waters.” The pastures are green and abundant. The waters are still and peaceful. Keep the spirit in your life, and it will grant you both abundance and peace.
“He restoreth my soul.” There is nothing you can do for which you are not forgiven, and whatever losses you’ve had are now being restored.
“He leadeth me on the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.” In other words, just keep following the path with heart and virtue.
“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for Thou art with me. Thy rod and staff, they comfort me.” Even though you have challenges––some small, some very large––and even though Earth is the plane of birth and death, if you keep spirit in your heart, all will be well. You are comforted by the One who tends the sheep. There is no fear. Your fear is gone. Even if you’ve known fear, the power of love is stronger. You are not only loved and protected, but you have the power of love in your own heart as well.
“Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of my enemies; thou annointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.” You are protected even if there are those who would work against you. You are provided for, and you are blessed. Your cup of blessings overflows because it is filled to the brim.
“Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever and ever. Amen.” As long as you have spirit in your heart and in your life, you will have goodness, kindness, and compassion. You will stay in the protection of the All That Is. Forever.
Say these words over and over to yourself. Keep them in your deep inner mind. Let them reverberate inside of you. You will no longer know fear. You’ll know that all is well. You are blessed, truly, and you will make your mark upon this world.
Imagine that a golden ray of heart-centered energy is moving into your heart, and know how that you are loved, guided and protected for all time.
So many people hang onto the hurts of the past. Did someone say unkind things to you when you were twelve? Did your boyfriend or girlfriend break up with you in an unloving way? Did your parents treat you in a less-than-kind manner? Did an employer let you go without explanation? Are you holding onto these experiences, and do you feel it might be time to transform them so you can be free to live your life without resentment and hurt?
Why Do People Keep these Thoughts Going Inside?
Some people feel they need to keep these old hurts going. They replay them in their minds time and time again. Maybe they feel that if they keep the hurting thoughts going they’ll protect themselves from having to go through the situation again. Quite the opposite is true, as you will see when you read on. Other people keep the hurts going in their minds because they’re hooked on these kinds of thoughts – that so and so “did it to me” and “I can’t forget and I can’t forgive.” Some people just don’t have any idea that they can change. They’ve built neural pathways in their brain that play the old hurt over and over again. Yet, when the time is right and the desire for change is there, the doors to transformation can begin to open.
The Problem with Replaying These Thoughts Over and Over
The main problem is that thoughts are electromagnetic, which means that they’re both electrical and magnetic. So when something is a magnet, it draws to it something of like nature. When the negative thoughts keep going on, you then draw similar situations in so it seems like “There it goes again!” The same situation is back in your life. It goes on until you heal it and begin to attract new kinds of experiences. So what are the remedies?
I Am Not the Victim of the World I See
That’s a line from the book A Course in Miracles. You may feel like a victim, but you aren’t. If you look at each situation in you life as an opportunity rather than a horrible experience, then you pull yourself out of victimhood. You might also find seeds of inner power in many of the experiences of your life. Was there something in your experience that you needed to move you forward in life? Even if it was painful, did you need it to pierce you open so that you could grow into a deeper kind of person? Was there some hidden gift in your experience that came to light at one time or another? Did you need freedom to move forward when that person left you? Did that illness show you how you can have compassion for all others? What was the advantage in the experience you endured?
I Have Always Had That Problem
Instead of telling yourself that it’s always been this way for you and always will be, phrase it another way. Say, “Up until now, it’s been rough, hard, a struggle, but that’s just up until now. Now I have the opportunity to shift my thoughts and my mind and move in a forward direction.” There’s always an opportunity to move forward. What you’ve endured may have been very painful, but you don’t have to perpetuate that pain. There is a way out.
Ho’Oponopono is a way of looking at life that has emerged from Hawaiian shamans. One of its tenets is to take personal responsibility for everything. If it’s showing up in your life, there’s something here for you to grow from. A powerful practice of Ho’Oponopono is to say the following words throughout your days and nights:
“Thank you, I love you, I’m sorry, please forgive me.”
It means that whatever has taken place, I am giving thanks in my life, I am filling myself with love, I’m sorry I’ve misperceived things, and I ask forgiveness. I ask to forgive both myself and others.
When you let go of the old hurts, the slights, the grudges, the pain – you can then move forward to the next level of your life. You don’t need to hold yourself back any longer. Move on, and you can find yourself in a new and powerful place, and you can truly transform your life.

Do you ever get discouraged when you’ve had a setback and think it’s all over or that somehow you’ve failed? Everyone has these setbacks, and to some it’s just a short while until the tide turns. To others, it’s a pronouncement on their worthiness and a sign of sure defeat. If you keep on going when you’ve had a setback, it can be just a brief moment in time when a breakthrough happens. You may be receiving a challenge just before a rebirth. You may not see it at the moment, but something may be waiting to open for you in a great way.
This is true for people who are breaking an old habit, and the habit may return for a moment in time. It’s not a failure. It’s a revisiting, an opportunity to see the habit in a new way. It’s true for people who are manifesting new projects in their businesses or their work. Maybe something doesn’t quite go the way you like, but if you keep on, you can see your work bear fruit.
I tell my clients who are creating something new in their lives – like freedom from cigarettes or unhealthy foods or old relationships or difficult thoughts – that sometimes there may be a revisiting of the old habit, which seems like a setback. But it’s not. It’s an opportunity to take a look at the old situation with new eyes, to keep on going and move forward.
