I may still have the negative thought, but now I will be aware of it rather than letting it secretly plant itself deeper into my mind and be fertilized with other unconscious negative thoughts. 

With awareness and acceptance (of the fact that I have negative thoughts), I can begin to let them go and/or replace them with a question such as &quot;Is it true?&quot; or replace them with gratitude to counteract the thought (e.g., &quot;Darn! I&#039;m broke&quot; can be followed by &quot;I give thanks for my burgeoning bank account&quot;).
